On 20 July 2026, the Erdene Microgrid Research and Development Center signed a Memorandum of Understanding on academic cooperation and exchange with the Department of International Policy and Economics, Graduate School of International Cultural Studies, Tohoku University (Professor Yu's laboratory).

The MoU was signed by D. Bayasgalan, Director of the Center, and Professor Jongsu Yu, Dean of the Graduate School of International Cultural Studies at Tohoku University.

Over the next five years, the two institutions will collaborate on:

  • Exchange of faculty, researchers and students
  • Joint research projects
  • Academic conferences and seminars
  • A jointly published academic journal

Microgrids are small-scale, locally controlled energy systems that can integrate solar, wind and storage, and operate independently of the main grid — making them especially relevant for Mongolia's remote communities and renewable energy goals. This partnership expands the Center's international network and opens new opportunities for research in renewable energy and microgrid technology.
